Is Racist Australia safe place for Education?

In the past three weeks, six Indian students have been attacked in Australia.

Some of the communities are flagging slogans - Boycott Australia - to voice their anger and disappointment.

"Even the Australian police are biased. We are scared of going to them. Look what happened yesterday, peaceful protesters were violently attacked by the police. If this does not stop, soon Asians will boycott Australia," said Adnan Khusro, a student studying in Melbourne.

According to Reuters a poll in Australia found that "Three-quarters of Australians believe their country is racist and nearly 60 percent believe racial violence at beaches in Sydney has damaged the country's international reputation, an opinion poll showed on Tuesday.

  1. That number of attacks has now increased to about fifteen, over the space of about six weeks. This is no way a statistically exceptional number of attacks, but as each individual is reported as front page news in India, it seems that way.

Fact is, here in Australia, there are 70 assaults, per month, per 100 000 of population. There being about 200, 0000 Indians living in Australia, there should be about 140 attacks on Indians by probability alone.

    Basically, it's all hype.

As for whether Australia is a good place to send you kids, the answer is: probably not. Our universities are mostly second rate, and as there's next to nothing in infrastructure for foreign students, Indians students end up having to rent hovels in scumbag areas of the cities, which makes them statistically more likely to get mugged.

Often, they have to work nightshift in order to pay the rent, which means they're spending long hours on public transport, at night, making them statistically more likely to get mugged again. Sure, note that most of the attacks reported in the media have occured on, or near, public transport, at night.

My advice is to take your up front student fees and bugger off. But don't go squeeling that you're being victimized by white supremacists, because it simply is not true. Ok?

  5. Some believe that australia is a safe and peaceful country and now many believe its not.but i dont get why these issues has to come up now.It has been going on for ages not only in Australia but everywhere.its only because of the sensationalisation of the media.....i have decided to do research on it and am glad that i know a thing which many a people dont....atleast i havnt come acrooss....theres an organisation called Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI) http://www.aaeri.org/ - which is the only regulatory body which works closely with australian and indian government and ensure safety to indian students..but how many of you know that....
